Some people believe this pandemic is a chance to rebuild society and build a better, more positive future. Others fear it will make existing social problems worse. Tumultuous times are always times of change. It’s up to us to make sure that when we emerge from this ordeal we ensure that change is good.
There’s no denying that right now, life is unmeasurably hard for a lot of people. We’re all watching the death toll climb daily, reading about World leaders incapacitated with the virus, looming humanitarian crises in refugee camps and an impending global recession. But we’ve all seen countless examples of solidarity, courage, generosity and positivity from people and communities around the globe. The planet is getting a chance to breathe a breath of fresh air and wildlife is starting to be respected more. Multilateral cooperation projects are emerging, guidance on dealing with anxiety is being freely shared, social media is full of creativity and people are reconnecting with old friends and family like never before.
If you’re an essential worker, battling the virus on the frontlines of medical care or keeping food supply going, then we salute you and thank you with all our hearts.
